Грыцько знакомится на ярмарке с цыганкой – ворожкой, которая помогает ему уговорить родителей Параски выдать за него дочь. Параллельно с этим разворачиваются комические события, связанные с таинственной историей про червоную свитку. Весь рассказ кума Цыбули о червоной свитке экранизирован и насыщен множеством эксцентричных сцен. B финале истории главные герои обретают счастье и все завершается веселой свадьбой.
