Gauri (Shobhana) the sole survivor of a tragic bus accident loses her memory. Admitted to a private nursing home, where she is diagnosed as suffering from 'hysterical amnesia' (retrograde amnesia), she falls in love with the doctor's son Sarath Menon (Jayaram). However, Narendran (Suresh Gopi), Gauri's husband arrives from USA searching for Gauri. When Gauri fails to recognise Narendran, he returns without a word, never showing Sarath his wedding photos with Gauri, that he was carrying with him.

Philip (Mammootty) is the owner of a financing company. Raju (Rahman), Philip's younger brother is a drug addict and is put under rehab. Convinced that he's out of his habit Philip sends him off to Madras to pursue his studies. However on a subsequent visit to the city Philip realises that Raju has gone back to his old habits. Amidst this Raju steals some money and gets away in Philip's car which meets with an accident killing him. Years later Philip gets married to Cicily (Sobhana) and one day mysteriously Raju comes back to their house alive.

In seemingly a case of mistaken identity he is arrested by the police, to be eventually vouched for and released by the inspector (Mukesh) who happens to be his classmate. However his luck changes soon; he ends up loosing his job and damages his family's reputation due to the actions of his so called 'imposter'. Frustrated, Vishwanathan decides to find and face his doppelgänger with the help of his police inspector friend. It doesn't seem as easy as they thought and the further they dig in, the more mysterious it becomes.
