Bollywood action comedy film with a lost and found theme, about three brothers separated during their childhood who grew up in three homes, adopting three religions. They meet in their youth to fight a common villain. It was the biggest blockbuster of 1977, and won several awards at 25th Filmfare Awards including Best Actor, Best Music Director and Best Editing.

Vijay and Ravi are best friends (hence the name 'Dostana') who do not even question each other about their careers. Vijay, a police officer and Ravi, a lawyer, while the former catches the criminals who smuggle, Ravi on the other hand bail those criminals, employed by Daaga. One day, both Vijay and Ravi meet Sheetal at different places and times, and both fancy the same girl, Sheetal, but Vijay's love was more serious. Ravi admits his love for Sheetal to Vijay and is devastated but Vijay decides to sacrifice his love and give Sheetal's hand. However, there was a misunderstanding when Daaga decided to stir up Vijay and Ravi's friendship by showing a photo of Vijay and Sheetal to Ravi. When the atmosphere became to hot for them they jointly took a water grave for their love.

Inspector Dev Kumar and Gaurav alias Guru are childhood friends. He is held captive in a box until 15 years has passed and Goraknath wants to obtain a priceless gemstone from wealthy Neelam, who's the only person that knows its location. And to carry out his task he decides to send Anand as a snake in the form of a human to Neelam, which Anand does, but both is attracted to each other, gets married and is settled down in Neelam's mansion. This gemstone is protected by two black snakes, whose magical powers has empowered Neelam's body, so that when Goraknath tries to harm Anand all his powers and mediations to Bhairavnath will all be in vain and for Neelam to project herself as the only snake god in the universe that has magical powers.

Brahmachari (Shammi Kapoor), an orphan with no identity, takes care of many children who are orphans in his home. Being poor, it is hard for him to take care of their every need. One day he saves a young woman Sheetal (Rajshree) from committing suicide. She's in love with Ravi Khanna (Pran) who likes to have many affairs. Brahmachari promises to get them together but asks money from her in return. Day and night he works on her appearance to make Ravi like her, but Brahmachari falls in love with her. When Ravi proposes to Sheetal, she realises she loves Brahmachari. He denies his love for her saying he wants to be big in life and marry a rich girl. When she tries to commit suicide again, he accepts her.
