Comedian Renato Rascel plays a nebbishy nobody who spends his life-savings on a fancy overcoat. Suddenly, the nobody becomes a somebody, proving beyond doubt that clothes make the man. And then one day, the overcoat is stolen...Fleshing out the short-but-bittersweet Gogol original are several colorful new characters, including a publicity-hungry small-town mayor, played by Giulio Stival. The background music was composed by director Lattuada's wife Felice. American prints of Il Cappato are missing a so-called "naughty" telephone exchange between the mayor and his silken mistress.

The purchase is too expensive for their familiar balance sheet. To earn some money they decide to go for prostitution. The wife is not so unhappy to the perspective. The room. To celebrate ten years of marriage a couple decides to spend a quick holiday in top luxury hotels in Sardegna. But the fashion luxury VIP world is too hard to enter; they soon will end in prison. The Lion. Two adulterous, Antonio and Giulia, are blocked by a lion, staying on the exit in the place they met. They both have to come back home, but couldn't move because of the lion presence. The critic situation soon drive them to their limit peak, showing their real essence.

This film has the typical air of Italian action/gangster comedies from that period - it is a perfectly charming and funny sort of comedy. The cliches of black and white are wonderfully maintained in this movie as the good guys are clever and witty and the bad ones are bad and pretty dumb. The "Shakespearian" dream of the "good" Mafioso a bit stupid but then a film like that seems in need of a few blunders.

The journalist and the photographer Franco and Ciccio are looking for a scoop, they come across by chance in the murder of a diamond dealer Dutch and Franco immortalizes the fateful moment. This made a power of attorney to the two overlap, and a trip to Amsterdam to track down the murderess and instigators of the crime, will embark on many adventures thanks to a Dutch girl, Thea, who acts as cicerone in the capital, Ciccio also will smoke a joint to socialize with the hippies. One of them shows him a guru who could give them the necessary information, but as they climb to the hotel to look for the guru, they find it just hit by a burst of revolver, but the guru, who is also fakir, remains unharmed discovering the principal the murder.
