India has lost two of the three one day internationals against Australia, and have lost all hope of winning the three-test series, mostly due to the dismal performance of the arrogant Cricket Captain, Ranvir Singh alias Ronny, who is also the brother of the Chair of the Cricket Selection Committee. This Committee decides to have a new-comer named Sunny in place of Ronny, which leaves an embittered Ronny, swearing to kill Sunny at any cost. The third match is being planned in the Wankhede Stadium in Bombay, and a group of terrorists announces that they will blow the stadium up with the estimated 50,000 spectators, unless and until the Indian army withdraws it's peace-keeping force in the region. The Chair of the Selection Committee takes control as the Director General of Police; launches an investigation; and does arrest the culprits, who have been employed with the Stadium for many years...

Ramdev Bakshi is the only son of widower and former Indian Army General Durgaprasad, who has been decorated several times with various medals for bravery shown in the line of duty. Alas this did leave him crippled, after he lost a leg during the war with Pakistan. Ramdev is also enlisted in the army, but he is peace-loving and detests war. He has a sweetheart in village belle Suman Mehra, and both hope to get married soon. He does answer the call from the army and joins active duty, only to be arrested and court-martial-ed for disobeying orders. After being dishonorably discharged, he disappears from Suman and his father's lives. Years later, Suman enters a beauty contest and is crowned Miss India. She travels with her mom to Britain, where she meets with Ramdev.

Raja (Dev Anand) has been abandoned by his biological mother at a very young age, and grows up with Master (Jeevan), a criminal don and card-sharp, who would like Raja to continue working with him on a commission basis. Raja learns all that could be learned about playing cards, quits work with Master, and starts work on his own. He succeeds considerably, and soon gets rich and wealthy. He falls in love with beautiful Chandra Gangaram (Zaheeda), and would like to marry her. But her father would like her to marry U.K. settled Ram Mehta(Sudhir), before Raja could do or say anything against this alliance, he is charged with the cold-blooded murder of Master.
